Final Project Part II

This is my final portrait in an environment which reflects part of my personality.  The portrait was done with pencil on paper and is a contour line drawing.  The background is of a lighthouse in York, Maine where my family has vacationed every summer of my life--I love the ocean, outdoors, being active, and find exercise to be very important and calming.  So If you look closely there is another quick contour line drawing of me on a stand up paddle board in the water below the island of the lighthouse--I have actually never paddle boarded in this area of the ocean, but it's a goal of mine for the future, so I decided to include it in the composition.  The water and grass was done by rubbing carpet and a crumpled bag with pencil; the house was contour line, and the rocks were implied lines.
When comparing this portrait to my first portrait there are a lot of differences and improvements.  I think the contour line versus just drawing and shading allowed me to draw what I actually saw when looking at myself rather than just drawing what I know is on a face.  The shape of my face is much more accurate in the final portrait--it's longer and the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth appear to be more spatially in line with an actual face--the first portrait had the ears and eyes very high on the face.  The value on the first drawing was done using only one pencil rather than different pencils of different values, and the shading on the first portrait didn't add to the face, but prevented the lines from being clear.
